Surveillance for Foscam Pro is the only app you need for controlling your Foscam cameras. Wether you want to protect your business or home, keep an extra eye on you elderly mother or don't want to miss a single second of your new-born baby: this is the app you need.
Panning means moving the camera horizontally, tilting means moving the camera vertically. Some models support moving in 4 directions, other models support moving in 8 directions. The app supports both and lets you control the camera easily.
The app supports full two-way audio support, meaning you can hear the audio recorded by the camera's microphone, but also you can talk back. If your camera is equipped both with a microphone and speaker that is. Please note that audio quality can differ between camera models.
When motion is detected the camera can send an E-mail to notify you. Motion detection and the mail server settings can be fully configured from within the app and can be quickly turned on or off. Additionally it is possible to use the input/output features of your camera to connect a door switch or external siren.
Face tracking (new feature!)
When enabled, faces that are in the camera's view will be tracked with a green rectangle.
Find cameras in the network (new feature!)
Search for cameras in the network and configure them. Only available for compatible MJPEG cameras.
Camera setup wizard (new feature!)
Assist in setting up and configuring your new camera for wifi and for access from outside your network. Only available for compatible MJPEG cameras.
Patrolling is moving the camera automatically at a specified interval, horizontally or vertically or both. In the app patrolling can be fully configured to follow certain patterns and quickly be enabled or disabled. Most Foscam MJPEG pan/tilt cameras support this.
Presets are pre-defined camera positions. Most Foscam MJPEG pan/tilt cameras support this, but remember that it has to be enabled on the camera first! Using the app you can manage preset position and move to them with a push of the button.
Some cameras are equipped with an optical zoom lens. You can control the zoom from the app. Additionally, even when your camera is not equipped with an optical zoom lens, you can use pinch to zoom digitally to view the image in full resolution and even beyond.
Mosaic with 4 or 6 cameras
In the mosaic view you have the ability to view 4 (portrait) or 6 (landscape) live video streams simultaneously.
* Please understand that not all the features above are available for all camera models. Check here for a feature matrix. Audio quality can differ from camera to camera.
The app is used by tens of thousands of users and reviewed by many of them giving an average of 4.5 stars! A 5-star rating after each update is very much appreciated!

To use Surveillance Pro for Foscam on an iOS device you'll need one of these Apple iOS devices running iOS 6 or later:
*Although the app is not specifically tailored for the iPad, it works and does use the bigger resolution of the iPad to show a better quality camera image.
For basic app usage you'll need:
You'll be able to access the camera(s) when both the phone or tablet and camera(s) are connected to the same network
To use the full potential of the app you additionally need:
You'll be able to access the camera(s) from outside your local network.
The hashes below can be used to verify if the binary you downloaded is authentic, thus is exactly the same as we compiled and distributed.
To verify, follow the steps below on a Mac with OSX Mountain Lion or newer (advanced users only).
To set up your camera, please refer to the manual that came with the camera and set up the camera using the supplied software and/or the web-interface of the camera. In the app add the camera by entering the hostname and port number and the user account you use to log onto the camera's web interface.
Access from outside of your network
When you want to access your camera from outside of your local network, you'll need to enable UPnP on both your router and camera(s) or setup NAT port-forwarding on your router. Some basic understanding of computer networks is required. Please refer to our tutorials below for some help.
Please understand that we cannot give individual support for setting up your camera(s).
Swipe for more controls
In portrait the controls are available on the bottom of the screen. Swiping from left to right or right to left uncovers more pages with controls. Double-tap returns to the main controls.
Rotate to view video full screen
When rotating the device from portrait to landscape orientation the videostream will be displayed in full screen. In this screen you can swipe to the correct camera, pinch to zoom and access a menu with option by tapping the upper edge of the screen.
Pinch to zoom
The video image can be zoomed in and out by using the pinch gesture. When zoomed in, the image can be panned or double tapped to view to fit. When not zoomed in double tap to view the image in the original resolution.
The videos below are of an older version of the app (the app responds much quicker now) but can still be helpful.
This FAQ is always updated to the latest app version that in the store now.
Some terminology used in this FAQ:
|Q: There are more apps to control cameras, why should I buy yours?||show answerhide answer|
A: Well, our app is specifically designed for Foscam cameras and our aim is to support as much models and features as possible. Please check out the features list. Furthermore we don't offer in-app purchases, which means that all future updates are for free!
As a company our focus is on easiness to use to provide the best user experience as possible. And if you need support we answer personally and as soon as possible.
|Q: I haven't bought the app yet, how can I be sure that it works?||show answerhide answer|
A: If you have a Foscam PT (Pan - Tilt) IP camera like the FI8908W, the app will likely work. However, there are a lot of Foscam clones - by some people called 'fakes' - that can work or cannot work with the app. The easiest way to determine is to test it before you buy the app. On your home network, open your favorite browser and type in the URL bar:
For example: http://192.168.1.100:80/videostream.cgi?user=henk&pwd=secret
If the camera's image is shown, open a new browser tab or window and type in the URL bar:
http://ipadressofyourcamera:port/decoder_control.cgi?user=yourusername&pwd=yourpassword&command=25For example: http://192.168.1.100:80/decoder_control.cgi?user=henk&pwd=secret&command=25
Now go back to the browser tab or window which shows the camera's image, or watch the camera physically: if the camera is moving around, the app will work with your camera.
|Q: I haven't bought a Foscam camera yet, which should I buy?||show answerhide answer|
I assume you talk about a Foscam PT camera. As I told above, there are a lot of Foscam clones available. Unfortunately it's hard to distinguish clones from real Foscam cameras, check out these two links:
A tip: buy it from an official Foscam reseller!
Please understand that not every model that looks like an Foscam is a clone, there are rebranded cameras as well.
|Q: Okay, I have a Foscam, where can I get support setting it up?||show answerhide answer|
We do provide some tutorials for setting up your camera, please check out the support tab. If you are facing technical difficulties with the cameras, please don't contact us but the manufacturer instead.GadgetVictims.com contains a lot of helpful information regarding Foscam cameras.
|Q: I only see a black screen with a rectangle or a black screen with a blue/white question mark icon||show answerhide answer|
That means that your camera's videostream could not be found or the name/password combination is wrong.
(1) Videostream could not be found: double check the settings and tap the refresh button. Check that 3G or wireless is enabled on your device and that you have coverage. On your device, check with safari if you have internet access or access to your local network.
Please note that the app doesn't support '302' HTTP redirections. Some cameras are being delivered with a unique camera URL on the box (like cameraname.camerabrand.hk) . If the URL uses a services like DynDNS the camera can be found, but if it uses the '302' redirection it won't. See 'Q: I haven't bought the app yet, how can I be sure that it works?' to see if the camera works through the supplied URL.
If your camera's URL is cameraname.camerabrand.hk your could try cameraname.dns.camerabrand.hk (this will work for some brands).
Refer to Q: I haven't bought the app yet, how can I be sure that it works? (see above) to check if your camera works.
If you have a Linux computer available you could try this (this shows when a 302 redirect is active):
# wget http://cameraname.camerabrand.hk --max-redirect=0 --2010-12-11 10:33:11-- http://cameraname.camerabrand.hk/ Resolving fajd.ipcam.hk... 255.45.65.130 Connecting to fajd.ipcam.hk|255.45.65.130|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 302 Object moved Location: http://115.291.157.199 [following] 0 redirections exceeded.
(2) Name/password combination is wrong: check your name and password. Please also assure that there are no 'strange' characters in your username or password. There is a known issue with # and % for example.
|Q: On my local network the app works, but on 3G it doesn't||show answerhide answer|
A: There could be several reasons for this:
1) You used an internal IP address in the settings dialog. Solution: Enter the IP address or Full Qualified Domain Name (see bullet 2) of your internet connection. Ask your Internet Service Provider.
2) The hostname in the settings dialog cannot be resolved outside your home network. Solution: Enter a Full Qualified Domain Name of your router (ask your Internet Service Provider).
3) The port you entered in the settings of the app or in the port forwarding settings on your router is incorrect. Solution: see bullet 4.
4) You haven't got port forwarding enabled on your router, or haven't set it up correctly. Solution: set up port forwarding.
Links for setting up your Foscam over an internet connection:
Important tip (1): Don't use ports below 1024, I saw people having problems when using low ports (other than 80) as configured port on the router (for example when using port 87). Changing it to 1024 solved it.
Important tip (2): first test if your camera is accessible from outside your home network by testing it with your favorite webbrowser and entering in the URL bar:
http://yourfullqualifiedhostname:portnumber/ or http://ipaddress:portnumber/ Examples: http://adsl1234.myisp.com:80/> http://18.104.22.168:1001/
If the logon screen appears, and you can login, the app should also work.
|Q: Daylight colors look weird||show answerhide answer|
A: This is not related to the app, if you try the Foscam web interface you will see the same image. The colors differ from in real-life because of the fact that the Foscam cameras by design don't have an IR-filter. This allows the cameras to work in complete darkness too (night vision).
If you want to improve the daylight colors from the camera, you can replace the lens with a lens that has an IR-filter. But then night-vision will not work correctly anymore.
Next time you buy an IP-camera, be sure it has an IR-cut filter. This filter is automatically used in daylight and will be mechanically removed at night.
|Q: The image of the camera is too bright or too dark||show answerhide answer|
|Q: How do I connect/use the input/output features of my camera?||show answerhide answer|
A: As quoted from here:
The information in Foscam's manual concerning the external I/O Alarm contacts on the rear of the FOSCAM FI8908W IP-Camera, is wrong. The correct information is:
Foscam FI8908W I/O Alarm Pins 1 and 2 are controlled by a ZANTY Z12-5 reed relay. If you click on the chain icon in the operator device control, the normally open contacts of pins 1 and 2 will close until you click on the break-chain icon. If “I/O Linkage on Alarm” is set, Pins 1&2 will close upon a short of pins 3&4, and remain closed until reset by click on the break-chain icon.
The current limits for the ZANTY Z12-5 dry reed relay connected between I/O Alarm pins 1 & 2 are a Maximum current of 1A/24VDC, 500mA/125VAC (24W), resistive. Use appropriate protection R/C circuits with inductive or capacitive loads.
Six still photos are attached to the 'EXTERN ALARM' email regardless of closure time, although a short of pins 3&4 of at least .5 second is required to trigger an alarm.
During a power cycle closed contacts will open and stay open.
|Q: The camera doesn't move when I use the controls||show answerhide answer|
A: There could be several reasons for this:
|Q: The controls don't come up||show answerhide answer|
I can view the camera but cannot control it and none of the app. buttons work (Picture, Control) also the control button does not come up on the screen and none of the controls work in landscape mode
A: On your computer, use your browser to go to the web interface of your camera, restore it to factory default and set it up again.
|Q: The presets don't work||show answerhide answer|
I can save presets, but when I want to move to one, nothing seems to happen.
|Q: I don't hear the sound of the camera through my iOS device's speaker||show answerhide answer|
A: There could be several reasons causing this:
|Q: The sound is a bit scratchy/bad and/or I hear a humming sound||show answerhide answer|
A: We have found that the sound quality can different greatly between camera models and even camera of the same model. Furthermore we are still improving the quality of two-way audio because we found it to perform less optimal on some device + camera combinations. Until then you can switch back to 'legacy' (one-way) audio from the Manage->App settings menu. We have good experiences with an iPhone 5 + FI8910W camera.
|Q: iOS: I Updated from iOS x.x to iOS y.y, now the app crashes or hangs||show answerhide answer|
A: On every iOS there is a slight possibility that the app get corrupted resulting in crashes or hangups. Please remove the app and reinstall it through the App Store (you're not being charged twice)
|Q: iOS: I Updated from iOS 5.x to iOS 6.x and some cameras stopped working||show answerhide answer|
A: There is an unconfirmed possible problem where some ports are blocked on iOS 6. If you experience that some cameras stopped working on iOS 6, try a different port number.
|Q: The app stops unexpectedly/crashes||show answerhide answer|
A: It shouldn't and please accept our condolences. If it crashes you are being presented with the opportunity to send a crash report to us. Please do so and we try to find and fix the problem in the next update!
If it stops unexpectedly without a notification, this could be related to the fact that your device is running out of memory. This can be caused by other apps leaking memory. In the past we have experienced memory problems with our app and this has been fixed. Also our quality assurance process has been improved to avoid this from happening in the future again.
|Q: I see gray bars in the camera's image||show answerhide answer|
A: There is a known problem in some H264 camera's which causes gray bars in the lower part of the screen. This problem seems to be introduced in a later firmware version by the camera's manufacturer. This problem only shows up in the MJPEG stream (which our app) uses and not in the H264 (which some other apps use) and in the web interface of the camera. The manufacturer is aware of this problem and is fixing this problem in later firmware versions (or has done this already).
In the near future we also offer the HG264 stream for these cameras which also solved this problem (and introduces audio).
